T H A N K S !



Thanks to everyone who came to our Christmas Party it was a great success enjoyed by all. We would like to thank all the musicians who played Kevin Nolan, Gerry Walsh, Bim Conors, Seán O’Brien, Mgt Dooley, Busty Griffin, Mick Hearne, Teddy Butler, Tom Comerford, John O’Shea and Tony Coffey from the Bachelors in Trouble who entertained everyone on the day.
 We appreciate all the help from the committee   of the Community Hall. Thanks to Thomas and Breda Fogarty for everything, they helped us with in preparation for our Christmas dinner. We would also like to thank Andy Griffin, Kielys Shop, Collette Walsh Blanaid, Dermot and Theresa from the Chemist, Bernie Brophy, Vicki Corcoran, Mary and Pat Kiersey for all their help and kind donations.
 Last if not least a big thank you to all our volunteers Feana Walsh, Biddy O’Hanlon, Irene Royane, Evelyn Quinn, Daphne Power, Benny Morrissey, Mary Walsh and Paudie Coffey who helped on the day and throughout the year. Also the staff, committee and patrons who made the day extra special with the great work they did on the day and throughout the year.
 Thanks to Father Ned Hassett for saying Mass for us over the year and Bernie Crotty for organising them.
We are closed for Christmas on the 19th of December and will re-open Tuesday the 7th of January 2014. We would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and Best wishes for the New Year.

Our Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, 17th December, from 12 noon to 5.00 pm. The venue for this year’s party will be the local Community Hall, and everyone will be welcome.


The cost of the day will be €10, and we will provide a proper Christmas lunch plus entertainment. Entertainers present will be: Bachelors in Trouble, Kevin Nolan, Gerry Walsh, Margaret Dooley, Bim Connors, Mick Hearne, Teddy Butler, Busty Griffin and Seán O’Brien.

CAKE SALE & COFFEE MORNING

CAKE SALE & COFFEE MORNING
Saturday, November 23rd.
 


 

A Cake Sale & Coffee Morning, in aid of the Dr Martin Day Centre, will be held on Saturday the 23rd of November from 10am -12.30pm. A Raffle will also be held on the day, with some great prizes to be won. Anyone willing to bake, please do so as we would appreciate the support. All home baked goods can be dropped to the centre from 9am that morning.
For Tuesday the 19th of November, we have organised a trip to the cinema in Waterford to see the highly acclaimed film ‘Philomena’. We are also going on a trip to the Deise Day Centre in Dungarvan. Anyone who would like to come on these trips please call centre to book. We have been having some trouble with our phone, so if anyone wants to contact the centre please call the following number 087-0570652 until further notice.

Programme Additions & Changes



Our programme from Tuesday the 8th of October has been changed.  A  volunteer, Feana Walshe,  has started a fun programme, which will last six weeks. This will run every second Tuesday morning from 11.30 till 12.30 and has been a great success. For Tuesday afternoons,  Flower Arranging classes with Collette Walsh are being held,  which the ladies loved and had great fun.  On Tuesday the 15th of October our cookery classes will run from 10.30 to 12.30 with Olan. Also, in the afternoon we will be starting our Art classes from 2pm to 3pm. Booking is essential as numbers are limited we would not like to disappoint anyone, so if interested, please call the centre. ‘Thank you!’  to Feana and Collette. We really appreciate all the help and support from all our volunteers, who make our centre such a success.

ONE YEAR OLD !



On Thursday last, September 19th, our first year in existence was celebrated. It was an excellent day. I would like to thank everyone in the community for all the support we have received. Firstly I would like to express our gratitude to the committee of the Dr Martin Day Centre without whose hard work we wouldn’t be here to-day. To all the members, staff and volunteers of the centre, who make the centre such an enjoyable experience every day. A big thank you to our local musicians and singers, Kevin Nolan, Seán O’Brien, Mgt. Dooley, Gerry Walsh, Bim Connors and Tom Comerford. who make each and every Wednesday such a great experience for all.
Our clients were brought on a trip to Nell’s Cottage in Rathgormuck to celebrate the day, and had a brilliant time, at a venue which we would highly recommend. For lunch, we went to Ó Ceallachains’ in Carrick-on-Suir; the food and service was excellent and great value for money. Planning more days out; watch this space…..
New programmes starting soon are: Flower Arranging classes and Cookery classes. Art classes are starting Tuesday the 8th of October from 2pm; please book as numbers may be limited.
In the Dr Martin Day centre we provide holistic therapies. A complementary therapist and a chiropodist are facilitated for on the premises. Treatments are €15 and booking is essential please call the centre for further information. 
An excellent exercise programme is available on Wednesday mornings from 11.30 to 12.30. Our qualified instructor, Darren Loftus, provides a varied and fun approach to physical exercise. 
Mobile Optician Eyes on the Road are here the first Thursday of every month; the service is available free to anyone with a medical card.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS AT THE CENTRE

We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Maurice Nugent who was 98 years old today, the 23rd of August; Mrs. Kathleen Keane who was 90 on the 21st of August;  Eileen and Bucky O’Brien who are 75 and 80, also Myra Butler.  A celebration was held on Wednesday in the Dr. Martin Centre and a great day was had by all.

A trip to Mount Congreve was held yesterday, the 22nd of August, with lunch afterwards in the Holy Cross. Trips are planned for every month to various venues, such as Nell’s Cottage in Rathgormuck, Cinema, and Carrick-on-Suir.  Anyone interested, call the centre for more information
